Christ Church, Port Antonio, stands as the Parish Church of Portland and one of the historic Anglican congregations within the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Its story is closely connected with the development of Port Antonio itself and with the wider witness of the Anglican Church in eastern Jamaica.

 

The origins of Anglican worship in Port Antonio go back to the nineteenth century, when the town was growing as a port and commercial centre. As the population increased, the need for a permanent place of Anglican worship became clear. Christ Church was established to serve the spiritual needs of residents of the town and the surrounding communities, and over time it became the central parish church for the Anglican presence in the parish of Portland.

 

Through the decades, Christ Church has played an important role in the religious and social life of the town. The church has been a place of worship, prayer, and pastoral care, but also a centre for education, community support, and outreach.
